No explanation is needed here. Ian Happ is our top scorer for 2021 with nothing crazy happening. David Ross confirmed Happ’s place early in spring training.
It’s hard to say at this point, but I think Wilson Contreras is the best choice for the #2 position. His hitting on all pitches is close and leaves the door open for a hit and run, as does his ability to advance the runner for other Cubs runners. He also has the same strength as the rest of the team, which also allows him to race from that position.
Anthony Rizzo is the definition of consistency when it comes to driving to the race. He is the type of player you want at the plate in high pressure situations with runners on base. He is also the captain and face of the franchise. It’s perfect for third place.

*Certainly valid for players 21 years of age and older in Illinois and Iowa.
If you watched the Cubs in 2020, you’d be surprised that Kris Bryant managed to surpass 200 runs, or at least I was. He is willing to continue until the 2021 season, especially if he wants to get paid. It also allows the Cubs to stay in a good pattern of switching from a lefty to a righty so they don’t become too unbalanced, which has been the case in recent years.
This confirms the left-right confusion, although personally I’d like to see Javier Baez here. But Joc Pederson has the power, he’s flat, and he can really give KB the protection he needs. Joc will also benefit from KB’s excellent ability to get on base and his ability to run on base.
Like KB, Javier Baez performed poorly in 2020, so you know he has a motive to move up in 2021. We all know Javy is an MVP caliber player at his peak, and he has experience at every position in the order. It’s not surprising to see it in six places, although I would have picked it up in one.
Anything he can offer on the disc is a bonus. He had a very good 2020 and hit LHPs well. If he can build on what he did in 2020, he could really help move the lineup to the big hitters at the top of the lineup.
I was expecting to see Nico Herner at second base on opening day this year, but I’m not at all disappointed to see Bote in his place. With nine points, Booth belongs in this lineup, but he’s not a perfect eight-player. His skills are better suited for the five-seven position, but the Cubs have no place for him at the top. His book ends with a lineup that has legitimate power everywhere, but he’s vulnerable to hits. Many strikeouts are not ideal for eight pitches, as it leads to more scenarios where the pitcher starts the inning or plate with two outs.
Maybe he can hit his first homer, but beyond that, he shouldn’t hit. It’s time to make the designated killer universal, but until then, we’ll have to settle for this.
The wait is over for Cubs fans! What better way to start the year than with 1:20 at home before the weekend begins? Not at all.
