The Chicago Bulls could not have been more dominant in the game against the Boston Celtics in Boston. They were up by 14 at halftime, and their lead was never below double digits in the second half. Derrick Rose led the team with 23 points, with Luol Deng and Carlos Boozer scoring 20 and 19 points respectively. As a team, the Bulls shot over 54% from the field, and James Anderson was the only player on the Celtics to score in double digits. It was the first time the Bulls have won a game in Boston since 2007.
When looking at the scoreboard at the end of the game, it can be hard to remember how it started. Boston scored 34 points in the first quarter, and the Bulls were trailing by as many as 26 points in the third quarter. With an impressive fourth quarter showing, Chicago was able to overcome a 26-point deficit to win the game. Before the game, the Celtics were considered to be a stronger team than the Bulls. However, the Bulls bench scored an incredible 51 points, bringing the team to victory.
The Chicago Bulls seem to have learned lately that if they score more points than the other team, they have a high percentage chance of winning. The Bulls defeated the sixth-seeded Boston Celtics 121-99 on national television. They beat the Celtics by 22 points, and it was as surprising as the convincing victory on the national stage and disappointing that their lottery chances suffered.
After losing four games, the Bulls beat the Charlotte Hornets thanks to the return of Zach LaVine and Nikola Vucevic to the court. The Bulls defeated the Hornets, who are in eighth place in the Eastern Conference, by 21 points. Vucevic played like he had no injury from a sprained right adductor. The big man scored 29 points and grabbed 14 rebounds on 50 percent shooting and 71.4 percent from three-point range. LaVine was more rusty, which makes sense since he missed 11 games. He scored just 13 points with 45.5 percent shooting from the field and 37.5 percent from deep. LaVine didn’t have to do much, though, as Vucevic and the rest of the team played very solid games. Patrick Williams scored 11 points and played nine cards. Markkanen scored 10 and 7 points. Cristiano Felicio has left nothing to chance. It looked like the Bulls were back.
The Bulls have to hope they play every game against playoff teams if they keep beating them by more than 20 points. For the second consecutive game, the Bulls held their opponent under 100 points. This came after he had stayed under 100 in the previous four games. Jason Tatum, who scored 60 points in three games, finished with just nine points. He shot just 20% and 0/7 from the three-point line.
As we all know, the Bulls’ defenders and wingers are known for their strong defense. Kemba Walker and Evan Fournier were the only offensive forces for the Celtics. Walker scored 33 points and Fournier 17. None of the Celtics players scored 10 points either. It was similar to the Bulls’ game, except they were dressed in green and their fans weren’t as used to disappointment.
Nikola Vucevic had a triple-double for the Bulls in 32 minutes: 18 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists (thanks to Kobe for the last three). Speaking of Kobe: He scored 25 points, seven rebounds and five assists with 56.3 percent shooting and 58.3 percent from deep. LaVine hit just 41.7 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from three-point range, but he scored 25 points and made two brilliant shots. None of the Bulls scored more than 10 points (see Celtics comparison above), but they didn’t need to. In addition, Felicio averaged 18 assists per 36 minutes; he didn’t need to score.
The Bulls’ next game is against the Detroit Pistons on Sunday at 7 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast on NBC Sports Chicago. The Pistons are currently the worst team in the Eastern Conference. So after the Bulls beat two playoff teams, you can expect at least a 15 point win from the Pistons.
