Over the last two seasons, Tommy Tremble has been the Swiss Army Knife of the Notre Dame offense, taking on a variety of different roles. Whether he is lining up inline and taking on a defensive end, the lead blocker coming out of the backfield, or even in the slot attacking the middle of the field with the seam route, Tremble is an absolute weapon. Tremble has arguably the most untapped potential of any of this year’s Notre Dame NFL Draft prospects, as he was never the featured tight end in the Irish offense.

Notoriously, not @barleyhop’s Guy.. Tommy Tremble is just the epitome of fun.

Why does everyone love Tremble? The blocking is what sucks you in but the untapped potential as a receiver based on his movement ability and some flashes is what keeps you overnight. pic.twitter.com/HXX95epGmA

As depicted in the clip above, Tremble is physical at the point of attack, is able to get to his route, and finds a way to get open and come down with a nice grab on the sideline.

Make no mistake, Tremble is an athletic freak. The way he blocks and the general physicality he plays with were both huge benefits to the Notre Dame running game. And when his number was called, he almost always came through in the passing game.

As previously alluded to, Tremble was never the featured tight end as he was behind Cole Kmet in 2019 and Michael Mayer in 2020. Still, Tremble was able to amass 35 receptions for 401 yards and four touchdowns over his last two seasons with an 11.5 YPC average.

Tommy Tremble is not just a TE, not just a FB, he is a football player. He’s aggressive, wants to hit hard and is a pretty good athlete too. Can be both a TE and FB for the Giants. Some may say he makes defenders Tremble (sorry). pic.twitter.com/slXX7s42bK

Now, here is where it gets interesting for Tremble and his value in this year’s NFL Draft. As evidenced in the above highlight, Tremble’s open-field blocking is strong due to his athleticism and physicality. He is able to take on blockers at every level of the defense. Not many guys can line up at the fullback position, inline at tight end, and in the slot as a red zone threat or even someone to keep the safeties and linebackers honest.

Tremble tested as well as he looked on film at the 2021 Notre Dame pro day, as he finished the day with a 4.59 40-yard dash time, 26 reps on the bench press, and a 10-foot-2 broad jump. He also looked great while running routes during Ian Book‘s passing session from pro day. All of the aforementioned factors have continued to drive up his value as draft day approaches.

2021 NFL Draft TE Rankings:

1. Kyle Pitts, Florida
2. Pat Freiermuth, Penn St
3. Brevin Jordan, Miami
4. Tommy Tremble, Notre Dame
5. Hunter Long, Boston College

In addition to PFF, several other publications have Tommy Tremble in their top-five tight ends for this year’s draft. Those rankings are no fluke; the kid can flat-out play. His versatility and ability to line up at multiple positions matched with his raw athletic ability and physical style of play will lead to a promising NFL career.

Tommy Tremble fits the mold of the modern-day hybrid tight end that can do it all. His blocking highlights alone are what football coaches dream of, and it’s just a plus that the guy is an absolute athletic freak. Notre Dame is Tight End University and Tremble is just the latest to make his transition from South Bend to an NFL Franchise near you.

Tremble would be a great fit for teams such as the Philadelphia Eagles, Buffalo Bills, Cincinnati Bengals, New Orleans Saints, Baltimore Ravens, Pittsburgh Steelers, and San Francisco 49ers. The beautiful part about Tremble’s game is that he never strayed away from any assignment during his time at Notre Dame, and I would expect much of the same at the NFL level.

Tommy Tremble was born to be a football player, improved each year in South Bend, provides special teams value, and is the ultimate utility player for an offense. It truly is hard to find any negatives to Tremble’s game, but whichever team does land him in the NFL Draft will get a player that can come in and make an impact right away.
